Janet Jackson, GISP, PLS
Biography and Classes
Janet’s geospatial activities have spanned over 20 years. A prominent speaker, writer, consultant, and educator at regional and national forums, she holds a BA from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. Janet obtained her PLS from the State of North Carolina in 2013.
Janet has been a regular columnist for Professional Surveyor magazine (2005-2010), GeoWorld and CE News as creator and coauthor of the Intersect column. As a member and past president of many geospatial associations Janet often conducted education based presentations and workshops that shared real-world challenges of intersecting the GIS and PLS professions.
Janet currently holds an advisory board position at Wake Technical Community College in North Carolina.

GIS from A to Z (one hour to half day)
This 1 hour workshop will offer you a quick and easy way to learn some of the most common GIS terms and their meanings; such as the difference between geocoding and georeferencing. Are you prepared to discuss your clients feature attributes needed for their data dictionary or should you let someone else handle those comments? This brief workshop will have you saying and spelling new GIS words faster than you can say personal geodatabase. Be sure to bring a notepad and pencil - a short quiz will allow you to test your new vocabulary.

Ever wonder why some folks seem to intersect naturally and others don't? This half-day workshop will help you fine-tune your intersecting abilities by showing you tips and tricks to overcome the challenges and potential pitfalls you probably face every day in your professional work.

New Era - New Opportunities: GIS for Surveyors, Engineers & Construction Professionals (one hour)
For hundreds of years surveyors have been the tried and true professionals when it came to mapping. So why are they having to learn new vocabulary and technology that has to do with mapping their environment? Too often the school of hard-knocks is our teacher – but it doesn't have to be that way. Don't find out the hard way (by costing you money) that your interpretation of what is needed is not what the client had in mind. This lively presentation, filled with examples and tips, is a “must attend” for anyone interested in gaining more business by accurately reading, creatively writing, and efficiently responding to an RFP that has a GIS component.
